To many young people are dying before their lives begin. Parents, please teach them confidence and self-love. Teachers, please help them to flourish. Adults, give them a shoulder to lean on.
Although not autism-related, Jack’s death is very sad. He was so talented and had a great future ahead. Cherie, I have a cousin who is autistic.
She doesn’t speak.
My aunt had her to start to use sign language. It worked, she now is able to have a conversation with people. For me though I usually have to ask her mother what was said.
I do know one thing, the sign language for calling someone a “pig”. She learned that when she was quite young. She would do that and just start giggling. It was all in fun as far as she was concerned.
That’s awesome that she learned sign language! I love reading about people who overcome! Your cousin is a winner!!!!

I know back in my great grandparents age she would have been put in a home and forgotten.
