Struggling to Be

He’s not a problem child,

He’s not crazy,

Not unhinged,

Not attention-seeking,

Not being difficult,

He’s struggling to be heard,

He’s been silenced,

He’s been gagged,

Like a bird without a song,

A singer without a voice,

He’s struggling to be seen,

He’s been shadowed,

He’s been obscured,

Like the sun behind a rain cloud

Like an unsung hero,

He’s struggling to be free,

He’s been caged,

He’s been held captive,

Like a genie trapped in a lamp,

A lamp with no light,

He’s struggling to get up,

He’s been held down,

And kept underfoot,

With a bootheel across his back,

And an albatross around his neck,

He’s not a problem child,

He’s not crazy,

Not unhinged,

Not attention-seeking,

Not being difficult,

He just wants to be free to be himself!

Very good! Could also be “she” of course…applies to everyone, a little. Certainly me, surprise! 🤗🤗🤗

So well stated. As mom of kiddos whom have been silenced by bullies, it’s so important to advocate for them and give them a voice. Also to recognize the signs.

You’re absolutely right, Jessy! 💯 I’m so sorry that your children have suffered such vile treatment from bullies. 💔 Continue to be there for them and teach them to speak their truth no matter what. Sending you and those kiddos lots of love amd light! 💖💐🌺

WOW girlfriend how awesome. He just wants to be heard and not have his voice stifled. This is such an endearing poem of listening, awareness, and not discounting his (or someone else’s) concerns for the lack of patience and understanding. Love it Cherie!!! 😍💖🥰💝😘
