What to Do When Bullies Troll Your Blog

Spread the love

Every blogger in the universe has had this happen. An unnamed cyber-bully or one with a fake name trolls your blog, then makes vile comments against you. You can tell the person isn’t a blogger because their name is in black, there’s no blog associated with their screen name, and their spelling and grammar looks as if they never got past the third grade.

Lord knows I’ve had my share of them so I’m positive that every other blogger has had a few too, if they’ve been blogging long enough. If you haven’t, give it time.

Luckily, we bloggers can moderate each comment and we have control over which comments get published and which don’t. That’s a good thing.

So, if you get a troll who harasses you on your blog and the comment is so out of left field that you think the person must be sending their comment from a mental institution, the best thing to do is to trash the comment.

It’s what I did earlier today when a commenter who called his/herself Sheina-Ashley Vann launched a personal attack on me today. I could tell this person was clearly off their rocker because the comment was pretty bizzare- and that’s putting it mildly.

Trashing the comment without reply is the best thing you can do because you erase them from your blog- you make the trolling person irrelevant. And that angers a troll more than anything because they wantΒ you to react and you don’t. You only make them disappear.

Then chances are that person never bothers you again, unless they’re a psycho. And if they do, you can always do the opposite- sometimes you must publish the comments to expose them for the mentally deranged kook they really are. And that can make them go away as well.

It really depends on the person you’re dealing with amd the concept and circumstances around the incidence. Some troll comments are better exposed and some are better trashed. Only you can decide which.

With knowledge comes empowerment!

My blog originally began as a marketing tool for my books, then books/pets, but around 2016, with the potential of that witch being elected, I was surprised to discover I had a strong political opinion. And, as our nation/world is still in a mess, I’m still focused on trying to get out truth and a lot of people don’t like that… My worst issues were on Twitter but I’ve been off there for over a year – they were quire hostile to facts concerning certain therapeutics, etc.
Had one annoying commenter on Purrseidon’s blog, which we eventually blocked… I’m 90% convinced ‘carol’ was some sort of bot – If I’d felt it was human, I probably would have dealt differently, but the phrasing was odd, so if human, than English probably wasn’t the first language.

Wow! These trolls are really evil. And you can bet they are candidates for the nut house. And I think a lot of these extremists are using bots because they can’t get to everyone.

I never had any real weirdoes like that but two ‘critics.’ One said I was unsuitable to work with children and the other called me a misogynist. I responded to both but they never came back. It just goes to show that your assessment of their mental age is correct.

    Hello from the UK

Many thanks for this. Personally as trolls are big and green with no brain to speak of, they can be fun to tease. Such as in Tolkien’s The Hobbit when Gandalf make the trolls who have Bilbo Baggins tied up argue so much that the day comes and they turn to to stone.

So whilst the Tolkien trolls are thick skinned, trolls today vary. Some are thin skinned and just need to be ridiculed if they are being seriously mental. They then explode like bogarts in Harry Potter.

If of course they are just sad and not trolls at all, then one must be gentle. The truth spoken in love will set them free.

The thick skinned ones can just be teased with the truth until the day comes or they get bored. I don’t get bored as I can give better than they can. I have the armour of God and I can insult myself better than they can, so I have heard it all before!!

    Kind regards

We studied “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” in English class when I was in the 12th grade and I so enjoyed the books! Thank you so much for your lovely comment full of wisdom! You don’t know how much it means. πŸ˜ŠπŸ€—πŸ˜
