The Halloweens of 19-something
Halloween was exciting and fun in the days of old
Several ghost stories we all sat in circles and told
Dressed as our favorite ghoul we covered the streets for trick-or-treat
Until way past Thanksgiving weβd feast on something good to eat
In front of houses with porch lights and jack-o-lanturns a-glow
Adults sat on their porch swings and chairs holding a huge candy bowl
Halloween in the old days was an exciting night
With Halloween parties and haunted houses set up to excite
No worries of home invasions, robberies, shootings, or guns
But only of bigger punks waiting to swipe our candy and gum
The Halloweens of old were full of fun and excitement
Not like those of today with the threat of crime and incitement
Halloween was an exciting time full of wonder and magic
Not like today with threats of high crime rates and sex-traffic
The streets were a-buzz,Β swarming with little ghosts and ghouls
No worries we had of the threat of gangsters and fools
Back then we trick-or-treated without a care
How I wish I could time-travel back there
Happy Halloween! What a lovely poem!
Thank you so much. Wishing the same to you! ππ
Happy Halloween! π
Happy Halloween, Terveen. ππ
πππ HAPPY HALLOWEEN to you too Cherie. π» Yep, I remember those days and we didn’t need our parents to go with us either! Our neighborhood looked out for everyone and we felt safe without even thinking about it. And the treats…OMG! π«π¬π
Absolutely, girl! Lord, I miss those days! π₯
Oh yeah! π₯
This is beautiful…
… and don’t forget, we could dress up in costumes without being attacked for cultural appropriation.
Absolutely! Thank you so much, Greg! ππ€
I am so with you on this! I lived in a little town 3500 people, and the whole town was ours! We didn’t have to have adults with us, because we were safe to roam everywhere. Sigh! I miss that time, and tried to make it fun and exciting for our kids. Happy Halloween!
We grew up during some awesome times! I wish my children and grandchildren could’ve gotten a taste of what our generation enjoyed! π
It will never come again. So sad. I am enjoying the posts telling of my time as a child. Understand I left out a lot that no one wants to know or needs to know.
