Being yourself is especially hard for women. We have so many roles anymore—mother, wife, breadwinner, plus a host of others—it’s hard to just be you. I will tell you that when my one child, a son, grew up and moved out, after a period of suffering from empty nest syndrome, I was once again simply Kathy. I love my son more than anyone on this earth, he is my biggest blessing in life, but It’s hard to be a mother and be you. I’m probably not explaining this well at all. 🙄
You’re explaining it perfectly, Kathy. I’m a parent too and I couldn’t agree more. We women do wear a lot of hats and it’s hard to be yourself when you’re having to.switch roles.
Choosing to be yourself is sign of bravery! Great quote
Thank you so much, sweetie! 🙂
♥️♥️♥️
I’ve always thought of “myself” as the sum total of my choices. I wonder if you’d agree that’s something we can adjust as time goes on. 🙂
Absolutely it’s something we can adjust. 🙂
I am curious about this “being yourself” idea. What does it mean to you?
It means freedom and peace of mind. It means doing what’s right for you- living life on your terms and not being concerned about what others think.
I ask because I am currently researching romantic philosophy for my dissertation. The true self is absolutely certral, but I’m not sure what a lot of the romantic philosophers really meant by it.
I understand. I believe it’s different things to different people.
